If you’re experiencing hair loss, especially early hair loss or alopecia, you’re an excellent candidate for PRP injections. At Emerge Trichology Hair Restoration Center in Tampa, FL, we are proud to offer platelet Rich Plasma injections (PRP injections) for hair loss. This in-office procedure promotes new hair growth and increases hair thickness by leveraging the growth factors from platelets in your own blood. These growth factors send signals to the skin cells to function, stimulating hair follicles. A number of studies show PRP can help increase hair count, thickness and growth.

During the procedure, a small vial of blood is taken from a vein in your arm and then processed using a centrifuge machine to extract and separate the platelet rich plasma from red blood cells. This substance is then injected directly into the scalp at the level of the hair follicles. Though the process is meticulous, the total procedure can be completed in less than 30 minutes.

The number of treatments varies depending on your individual needs, but PRP treatments are often repeated every two to three weeks for three months. You’ll begin to see results within the first two to three months. Following this first round, maintenance injections may occur every six to 12 months. PRP injections can also be combined with other kinds of hair loss treatments such as hair growth supplements and topical treatments.

PRP injections have minimum downtime and little risk. Potential side effects include bruising, soreness and headache. You can take a warm shower to stimulate blood flow and/or Tylenol following the procedure to help ease discomfort. Your trained professional PRP specialist should inform you of any risks and possible side effects before your first procedure, as well as answering any questions about PRP therapy for hair loss.
