There are tons of options for treating hair loss but, not all of them work. A quick Google search will leave you inundated with options. From vitamins and oils to special conditioners and hair care products, everyone claims to have the “cure.” Is microneedling any different?

If you have questions about microneedling for hair loss, you’re in the right place. Emerge Trichology in Temple Terrace, FL is proud to offer microneedling therapy for hair restoration. But what is microneedling? How does it work? Is it safe? Does it hurt? We’re here to answer all your questions about microneedling therapy for hair loss.

Microneedling is exactly what it sounds like: a device with tiny needles all over it. The device is moved across the skin, creating wounds so small you’re unlikely to feel pain. Microneedling works by stimulating your hair growth by regenerating your hair follicles. The tiny wounds encourage growth factors by stimulating the dermal papilla, or stem cells. Microneedling is also commonly combined with PRP therapy for best results.

Let’s explore the evidence for the effectiveness of microneedling. There have been several research studies on microneedling for hair loss. In each of these studies, results showed the group that had microneedling experienced better hair restoration results than the group without. Even months after the study when treatment had long ago stopped, the positive results remained.

Side effects include:

·      Bruising

· Redness

·      Swelling

The procedure itself is minimally painful. A topical anesthetic is applied to your scalp about 45 minutes before treatment to help reduce pain and discomfort. The procedure itself takes 10 minutes or less. When complete, a topical balm may be applied.
